In this edition, the text of the Synodal Translation of 1876 has been checked against the Hebrew text of the Old Testament and the Greek text of the New Testament in order to eliminate inaccuracies made in the preparation of previous editions of the canonical Russian Bible.
Words in italics were added by translators "for clarity and connection of speech".
In the text of the Old Testament, the words taken by the authors of the Synodal translation from the Septuagint (Greek Bible) are enclosed in square brackets.
In this edition, these inserts from the Greek Bible are preserved only where, from the point of view of modern textual criticism, the Greek text can be closer to the original than the Hebrew that has come down to us.
In the text of the New Testament, words taken from the Slavic translation or later Greek manuscripts are enclosed in square brackets.
The edition is accompanied by a Dictionary of Loanwords, Rare and Obsolete Words, so some of the footnotes from previous editions were redundant and have been omitted.
