This book of the series "Guarding the Faith" is dedicated to the well-known Orthodox people, Archpriest Alexy Mechev. It contains the instructions of the priest and the memories of people who knew him closely. Prayer book and seer of the early 20th century, Fr. Alexy was richly endowed with gracious love for his neighbor. After graduating from the Moscow Theological Seminary, he began to serve as a psalmist, then as a deacon, and in 1893 he was ordained a priest. After 18 years of a happy marriage, Father Alexy buried his wife and mourned her inconsolably. John of Kronstadt helped him find the strength to live on and serve God and people in love and joy, a blessed conversation with whom moved Fr. Alexei to embark on the path of eldership. People of different classes reached out to the priest. The righteous man had enough friendliness and compassion for everyone. The priest never placed heavy burdens of obedience on his flock, but he waited for the strict fulfillment of a balanced and set goal. Having a minimum means of subsistence, the priest gave the last to those in need. He always patiently endured rudeness and reproach, considering his offenders teachers of humility, and eschewed awards and exaltations.

Alexy Mechev died on June 9/22, 1923. He was glorified in 2000. The relics of the saint are in the Moscow Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Klenniki, where he served as rector.
