The Psalter in Russian is published on white paper in green hardcover. The cover of the Psalter is decorated with a floral ornament and an image (in a medallion) of the head of King David. As follows from the biblical tradition, young David pleased the ears of the ruler of Israel, Saul, by playing the kinor, an ancient Hebrew musical instrument. The kynora was not as common in the Mediterranean, and the Greek translators of the Septuagint replaced it with the more familiar psalter. It was another multi-stringed plucked instrument from the zither family known to the ancient Greeks. Thus, the book of psalms came to be called the Psalter.
