This collection includes the lives of the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church, who lived in the 20th century, presented in an abbreviation for children.
The collection is compiled on the basis of the books of Abbot Damaskin (Orlovsky) published by the Bulat publishing house:
“Martyrs, confessors and ascetics of piety of the Russian Orthodox Church of the XX century”, in 7 volumes, “Lives of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia of the XX century”, in 6 volumes, as well as a 9-volume book “Lives of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia of the XX century of the Moscow Diocese”, published under the general editorship of Metropolitan of Krutitsy and Kolomna Yuvenaly.
Who are the martyrs and confessors? Martyrs are those saints who accepted suffering and death for Christ, including those who died in prison or a concentration camp. And confessors - those who accepted suffering for Christ, showed firmness in confessing the Orthodox faith, but were not killed by tormentors.
In addition to martyrs and confessors, the Church knows other orders of saints. These are saints, that is, holy bishops; reverends - men and women who have accepted monasticism, that is, they have abandoned family life and devoted themselves entirely to the service of the Lord. The righteous are lay people who have fulfilled the commandments of God about love for God and neighbor and have achieved holiness without taking monasticism. And there are the blessed ones who, for the sake of Christ, suffered the feat of foolishness, that is, they took on the appearance of insane ones, because of this they endured ridicule and mockery, but at the same time exposed human vices, comforting the suffering.
The collection includes the lives of not only martyrs and confessors, but also other saints of the Russian Orthodox Church who reposed in the Lord in the 20th century. But most of the book consists of the lives of martyrs and confessors. This is connected with the tragic history of our country in the 20th century.
